Q1 Real name / Twitter user name
Casey Wright. @caseywright
Q2 Location
San Diego, CA
Q3Website
Q4 Bio
I’m 27 years old. I run a small marketing company Wright Brothers Communications (@wrightbrothers) with my brother Corey (@flibertsteiner). We specialize in online advertising for real estate professionals. I have a beautiful wife named Jacqueline, a dog named Karly and 2 sulcata tortoises named Syd and Junior.
Q5 When did you start using Twitter and how were you introduced to it?
I started using Twitter about 10 months ago. I was planning a wedding at the time and I wanted a way to keep wedding invitees informed about developments and preparations for the big day, so I turned to Twitter. I sent out an email asking everyone to sign up for an account. They did, and pretty soon we were using Twitter to plan nights out, send funny/interesting links, and get feedback on business ideas.
Q6 What are the main reasons you use Twitter (e.g. business, marketing, fun, community etc)?
I use Twitter to find new ideas, to monitor relevant discussions, to find funny videos and pictures, to get help with problems outside my expertise, to market my business, to organize my social life, and as a means for personal expression.
Q7 What aspects of Twitter do you love?…
I love the speed of it. I love that I can type a simple question, and, within a few minutes, have a dozen personalized responses from all over the world. More than anything, I love the people. My followers and friends are funny, clever, and creative. They make me laugh and they broaden my horizons.
Q8 …and dislike (if any)?
Auto DMs. You don’t need to follow too many people on Twitter before that part of the service becomes so clogged it’s unusable.
Q9 If you could make changes to Twitter what would they be?
I would fix the DM thing. Just prevent auto and bulk DMs. Obviously, the site isn’t scaling that well. There are a lot of fail whales these days. I guess that’s to be expected, given Twitter’s growth rate, but it’s frustrating. Two people have told me in the last week that they went to sign up for an account and ended up giving up because the site was over capacity.
Q10 What Twitter apps do you use to Tweet from? (e.g. main Twitter site/ Twitterriffic / Tweetdeck etc)
Love Twittelator Pro on the iPhone. Tweetdeck is nice for desktop. But, honestly, I’m pretty old school. I tweet quite a bit from the site itself.
Q11 What are your criteria for following someone?
Generally, I follow people in chunks, depending on expertise/experience. So, I might follow a couple dozen comedians one day, then a couple dozen news agencies the next. I have a lot of interests, so I follow a lot of people. Then, I divide them into subgroups on my apps, so I can follow different targeted discussions in real time.
Q12 What type of behaviour would make you unfollow someone?
Spamming. General lameness. I know some people unfollow if someone is mean or rude, but I don’t mind that at all. I think it’s part of the discussion. It wouldn’t be much fun if you only heard from people that agreed with you. I’m more likely to unfollow someone because they are boring, inactive, or pushing their business too hard.
Q13 What tips do you have for newbies?
Make some time to tweet each day. If you schedule 15 minutes a day for a week or two, you’ll start connecting the dots, seeing the value, and really enjoying it. Beyond that, stay curious. Click links, ask questions, follow strangers, try different approaches, different profile pics and backgrounds–just keep playing.
Q14 How do you find new people to follow (e.g. Twellow, Summize, friends of friends etc)?
wefollow.com is great for finding new peoples.
Q15 Qwitter – do you use it? If someone unfollows you do you reciprocate?
Nah. I’m not that petty. I prune from time to time, and I’m more likely to cut someone if they aren’t following me, but I don’t automate any of that stuff.
Q16 If you agree that Twitter should be monetized do you have any suggestions how?
I’d love to see it sold to Google and incorporated into search results. I think Google would fix the stability problems and ensure any monetization plan was minimally intrusive to the rest of us.
Q17 Who do you enjoy following the most?
Ashton Kutcher. Kidding. @ronanmckee is a 5-year-old I know who tweets quite a bit. I love seeing the world through a 5-year-old’s eyes. You get tweets like, ”about to chop my brother in half with a light saber. wish me luck.”
Q18 How do you see the future of Twitter?
I think it will be like email soon; spam-ridden and ubiquitous.
